ACCOMMODATION:

Stay up all night with your Improv friends and add to your theatrical transformation experience by sharing this Rocky Mountain Log Cabin! This very unique setting has 3 private rooms with beds, as well as an upper floor with more beds. The cabin also includes a kitchen, living room, campfire pit outside and all of the other necessities to make your stay comfortable.

On The Schedule:

Boost your creative energy, laugh and heighten your improvisation skills through this 4 day theatrical transformation workshop!

In this workshop, you will discover the art of mask making while using your mask to learn and perform Improv. All levels are welcome!

Take-Aways:

  • Enhance your personal and professional confidence by helping you to “think on the spot”.

  • Boost creativity.

  • Learn non-verbal communication and acquire the principles of mask performance work. You will learn how to build face masks using plaster gauze techniques and explore character creation from a physical standpoint – using improv and body movement techniques for character and story creation with both neutral and emotional masks.

  • You will also explore and learn how to collaborate and work with group dynamics while creating performance using masks and physical gestures.

  • Release your stress through laughter!

  • Mental and physical warm-up techniques.

  • Verbal and Non-Verbal skills.

  • Random Improv games.

  • Constructive feedback.

COURSES INCLUDED

Mask Making Workshop – Spend 2 days with our instructor Sharon learning and making your unique mask.

Improv Workshop – Spend 2 days with our instructor Jeff learning and improving your improv acting.

Performance – Use your new acting skills in a relaxed environment. Venue is local approved!

Jeff has performed, directed and instructed Improv and theatre for over 40 years. He worked with the Citadel Theatre, Fringe Theatre, Rosebud Theatre of the Arts, Polaris Theatre and Fresh Theatre. His Improv Theatre troupes have performed in Canada, the United Kingdom and the USA. As a university professor, he instructed at Mount Royal University & Ambrose University College. Warning: His enthusiasm is contagious.

Sharon began her career as an actor in collective theatre and it has been her abiding passion for over thirty years. Since moving to the Robson Valley in 1997, Sharon has focused her professional theatre experience working with community members to create plays with music that speak to local audiences. As well as her work with her own company, Wishbone Theatre Productions, she is regularly hosted in the local schools to create topical collective plays.

HOW TO PREPARE:

Food:

Students will be responsible for their own food over the course of the workshop. Cafe’s and restaurants are available in Valemount.

Clothing:

Wear functional and casual clothing to foster your creative energies!

Other:

For the four day workshop please bring the following:

  • a hat and a unique small object

  • notebook and pen

REQUIREMENTS:

Students must be over the age of 16 years old at the time of the course. Participants between the ages of 16 & 18 require parental consent.

Full payment is required at the time of enrollment to hold your seat as courses fill up quickly and space is limited to 20 students.
