WHAT’S ON OFFER….

Mountain Bike Repair (2 HOURS):

If you have ever wanted to know how a bike works and how to make basic repairs, then this course is for you.
You will be able to observe bike maintenance and experience hands on repairs. It teaches the essential parts of a bike and what it takes to make one function properly.

Mountain Bike Skills (5 HOURS) – IN OUR VERY OWN MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK

Experience the Swift Creek Loop, North and South Traverse as well as the Munday Grind climb and Bacon trails.

This course covers fundamental mountain biking skills for those who are new to off-road trail riding. Students who successfully complete this course will have learned the skills needed to bike on intermediate level trails.

EQUIPMENT…

Students should bring their own mountain bikes; HOWEVER, mountain bikes are available for rent at Bikes and Bites. BASIC REPAIR TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED.

   REQUIRED: Clothing suitable for mountain weather conditions and a water bottle; your own lunch; mountain bike helmets, pads and other safety gear.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR…

LOCAL JEAN ANN BERKENPAS

Jean Ann Berkenpas competed as a member of Canada’s National Mountain Bike Team, beginning as a Junior in 2001 and continuing up to elite until 2013. During that time she won multiple national titles as a Junior and U23 rider, and competed in World Championships and World Cups as an elite rider. Her experiences racing have taken her to Europe, South Africa and New Zealand, and she has found many great friends along the way. Jean Ann currently works as a high school teacher and the event coordinator of the Mount Robson Marathon. She lives with her husband and son on the family farm in Valemount where they have a market garden, as well as a growing number of pets (including a dog, two cats and five ducks). She stays involved in the cycling community through volunteering with the Valemount Bike Park, coaching youth and beginners, hosting Liv Women’s events, and racing locally.
